I rarely go on Facebook so am a real "Novice". Today I went on Facebook via Laptop, wanting to send a message to one of my contacts. Messenger is set up. I clicked on the "new message" icon and it brought up the correct page. I typed in the recipient etc. The problem is that the area where I need to start typing the message is not visible??? I've gone into the help pages for sending a message and it says to type the message in the box at the bottom. Their is no box displayed. Its as iff I need to scroll down but there is no way to do that - the page is static. Is there some kind of setting that I need to change to configure the display differently, as to me it seems that my screen is cropping off whatever should be at the bottom of the facebook page???? Thanks in advance

Have you tried clicking on your contacts name and then messaging from there?
I don't do Facebook . Why don't you email or phone ?

Yes Ummmm I have, but same results. I've just gone on to Facebook via my phone and I can see the box where you type in the message, so that is the section not being displayed on the laptop. I've just tried same thing on my IPad and its the same as the laptop - the box is missing - but I can just make out that there is something there at the bottom - things you can click on like emoji. I can just see a tiny bit of what should be displayed, and if I hover the cursor over these partial bits, it tells me what it is eg emoji. So in short, its ok via mobile but not laptop or IPad.
Sorry if this is silly but have you tried clicking in the space above the emoji bits at the bottom? Somtimes the box is very difficult to make out until you have clicked in it
That's exactly what I was going to say.
this is how it looks for me - the message box is hard to make out, its the bit in red

Thanks for all answers. I've tried clicking as suggested but there is literally no box to click in. The suggestion to email or phone is a fair one - and I usually do email, but in this instance facebook messaging was the preferred option

Just an update. Regarding viewing bottom of page for messaging using Facebook on laptop. At the bottom of the screen there is what I think is called the taskbar and behind this I can make out the place where I could type a message and can also see various icons. It looks like I need to somehow "remove" the taskbar, although i do find it useful. I have tried right clicking on the taskbar to see if this gave me an option to remove it, but it doesn't. Ideally I'd like to find out how to temporarily remove the taskbar and then put it back.
This taskbar has on it shortcuts for things like Word, Excel, web browser etc. Its just handy but no big deal if it has to go for good - although facebook is the only thing that causes me a problem with it!! Any help appreciated

Further Update: Think have kind of sorted the problem. If I view Facebook via my usual browser Opera, I have the problem. Just tried facebook via Firefox and everything that should be visible is - and I can type a message. I do occasionally have other problems with Opera, so maybe I should change Browsers. It's just that I've got lots of things bookmarked etc. Maybe there's a way to transfer bookmarks to a new browser
