Depends what you want to use it for and the services you already have - are you an Amazon Prime member?
Question Author
No I don't have Amazon Prime, Does this make a difference?
The Echo allows you to stream the Amazon Music Unlimited by voice control through the built in speaker, you can also order goods from Amazon by voice.

What do you intend to do with the device?
i love my echo, but wouldnt use it at all if i didnt have amazon prime
What do you do with your Echo, bednobs? Genuinely interested.
mainly music - i don't have any other devices that i can play music on as easily. Sometimes i ask it what the weather is going to be like!
my daughter (5 years old) loves it cause she thinks it's magic, how it's got all the songs she likes, can tell her jokes.
it's got a good speaker
with regards to buying things on amazon - the day i set it up i came into the room to find it saying to my daughter "i've added that to your basket"!!!!!
ps i soon worked out how to password protect that faeture!
You're a spoilsport, bednobs. :D
So you don't control your lights and heating with it?
nah, i have legs and hands (ok so they don't work all that well at times, but i also have a husband who can be called into service for flicking a lightswitch)
I swear OK Google at my Daughter's house sighs sometimes when my youngest Grandson starts.

It's quite funny really.
