Replacement Laptop Charger
3 Answers
My charger for my Asus laptop has stopped working, so I'm after getting a new one.
My question - if I buy a generic one (or even one which claims to be a genuine Asus one), how important or all the figures on the charger?? I don't want to run the risk of damaging anything .... but I'd obviously like to get a cheaper one if I can :)
The figures on my charger say:
Input 100-240V 50/60Hz 1.0A
Output 19V 2.37A
The one I'm looking at says:
Input 100-240V 50/60Hz 1.6A
Output 19V 3.42A
I'm a bit worried about the difference in the Amp figures - is it important??

But it is worth buying form a reputable supplier, some Far East manufacturers place false safety approvals marks on their products – without being correctly safety tested, you could be placing your life at risk.

The really important fifure is the output voltage which MUST be the same as the original. If the output current is smaller than the original it may not supply sufficient power to run the laptop, together with any plugged-in discs etc and charge the battery if it has been run down for any reason. The one you are looking at looks good in both cases, so long as the connector to the laptop is correct. (If it's specified as being for an Asus and the connector doesn't fit you have every right to both your money and postage back).
