How do i get the date to automatically enter itself in to the cells using microsoft excel ?

Not sure exactly what you mean but if you enter:

=today()

You can then format the date to how you like it

I mean if you have the dates down the left colum instead of typing them in is there away excel does it for you

Type a date in the first cell, then select this cell along with the rest of the column you wish to use and then from the toolbar click Edit → Fill → Series and select the type of fill you require from Day, Weekday, Month or Year.
