Mini Ipad Charging Problems

My 3 year old mini ipad has suddenly stopped charging. Was charging from wall plug using 5w charger and on recommendation from Apple I purchased an authentic Apple 12w charger but this doesn't work either. Apple, of course, recommend I take it to an Apple store but these are few and far apart from where I am on the south coast.
Would appreciate any help....

You could try and remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your iPad mini, then firmly plug your charging cable in.

Thanks Jomlett - did that. Still no charge. Reckon I'm going to have to go to Apple and pay through the nose to correct whatever is causing this.
