Your iPad appears to be synced with your email provider's server and thus shows you whatever is stored on that server. Deleting emails locally won't automatically delete them from the host server. (It might be possible to adjust the sync settings so that it will happen but it's clearly not doing so at the moment).
Open your web browser (either on your iPad or on a different device, such as PC or laptop) and log into your email account via the web (i.e. through your email provider's website). Delete all unwanted email from there. Then, when you clear them out from your iPad as well, they won't be downloaded again from the server.

Hi Buinchico, By following your advice but it mean I would have to carry out the same procedure every time or is it just a “one off”. ?
Secondly, I don’t have the knowledge to alter sync settings unless you could give me guidance.
Thirdly, There is a facility to adjust a setting on my
iPad to delete emails either over daily, weekly or never.
Mine is set at never. Should I alter to a weekly setting, would it only delete trash mail and leave all other intact? Many thanks. Tel
