The WPS file format is very similar to the DOC format, it too is a text document but it is created with Microsoft Works Word Processor; and does not include advanced formatting options and macros that a Word document may contain. Most versions of Microsoft Word can open a WPS file, as well as Microsoft Publisher

Donny...I don't have Microsoft Office or word on my PC, so is there any way I can convert the file without purchasing Word ?
You could send the file to someone with Word, they could open and send back to you.

Tanks Donny...I am nearly out the door, so I will study this when I come back later !
You should have Word on there Mikey with a new W10 system. It opens WPS for me.

Togo..that is what I thought, but I can't see it anywhere on the PC. When I go to start and have a look there, there is a heading for Microsoft Office, but its just an advert for the purchase.
Hmmm unusual that Mikey I have got office containing word on both my systems. Don't know what to think unless your lappie came with w10 without it for some reason. There are free versions of word to be had but I am loath to post a link to something I have not used myself. ,You of coarse are well able to search for them yourself or perhaps some one will come by who has done just that. I am a bit pressed for time at the mo.....due to set off top Liverpool for CT scan conflab, and trying to fix the bathroom pull cord switch. Will look in later.
Word does not come "free" as standard with Windows 10.
Let us know how you manage to open your file, Mikey.
PS There are numerous copies of Word for sale on e-bay, I run Windows 10 with a 2003 copy of Word, most copies on e-bay are 2007.
Just got back in and had a resume. Thinking back I had word from previous operating system XP. I know I have never paid for it and it must have been part of the package when I bought the lappie with W8 on it. As I said at 9.34 there are free downloads available but having never used any of the sites I am loath to recommend one. A couple of them are tagged as Microsoft supported, but to coin a phrase. "They would say that wouldn't they".
Try www.zamzar.com - I'm fairly sure they can convet wps files to doc format
