Convert Meter Readings

Is there a easy way to convert your meter readings to Gas and Electric units/ i.e. say your monthly readings gave a total of 220 units for both that month how does that work out. The reason I ask is when going on a comparison site the ask you what is your consunption. Thanks for any help.

You have to deal with gas and electricity separately, since both are charged at a different rate.
Electricity is straightforward - your meter reading is in Kwh.
Gas is more complicated in that your meter reads in cubic feet and you have to convert that to Kwh - your gas bill should have an example of exactly how to do it.

and also send you an annual consumption thingey

gas in unit x 2.83 x 39.3 x 1.02 divided by 3.6 = gas in KWh

multiply your gas unti meter reading by .... 31.512
and you will get the gas in KwH

so in your case 220 x 31.512 is 6933

I think when I last looked elec was charged per KWh at three times the gas Kwh rate - Yikes !

These sites also allow you to just enter the amount you pay, and they can then work out your consumption from the info on your tariff. It's justa guide as to your usage so they cantell you the comparative costs for same usage from other suppliers.

As said above, both utilities are charged for in kWh. Electricity meters measure in kWh but gas is measured volumetrically, not in the energy value (although there is no reason why it couldn't make the conversion and display it directly, typical opacity and/or lack of imagination). If your gas meter is very old it will measure consumption in ft³ but most meters nowadays measure in m³. You need to convert the gas reading accordingly, the two volumetric units obviously go through two different conversions.
