"Late last year, several women told US media that Close, who is handicapped and relies on a wheelchair due to spinal artery collapse, had asked them to undress and made unwanted advances and explicit comments when they visited his studio."
You omiited the 'made unwanted advances and explicit comments' part from your OP.
Maybe you should read your own link before you post it?
And if you have read it, please don't edit it to make it apear as though the issue is more trivial than it is.

That's some slippery slope, from world class artist and photographer to leching perv in a wheelchair.

I thought thist was the National Portrait Gallery four victorian photographers - Julia Cameron and Carroll
Carroll used to take piccies of girls wivvart clothes - but Alice Liddell of Alice fame is there - clothed
but in New York - is this a case of shooting the messenger innit and burning the message -
Do we refuse with ornate phrases about obsecnity to look at Dadd's pictures because he butchered his father ?
and E A Gill was pretty odd - wivviz models and when they wouldnt oblige - his kids .....

NY Times; "Two women recently told The New York Times that Mr. Close had asked them to model naked for him, requests that made them feel exploited and uncomfortable."
They were models for Pete's sake, that's what models do! I've hired scores of them.
If they didn't want to undress all they had to do was say "no", there's thousands of models who are comfortable with the job and the guy is invalided in a wheelchair and can't attack them anyway - it's all rather sad really, and doesn't warrant the closure of a major exhibition in a public gallery.

The potential for a physical attack may be limited, but not eliminated, as you state, and an attack does not have to be physical to be distressing, and to warrant action.

I found this an interesting read on the wider subject and it does raise the broader question of how we view the artworks that hang in galleries etc and the stories behind both the artists and the sitters.
