hi applied for a smart meter for the first time from sse and after a question and answer session i was asked where the meter was ,outside for gas meter, outside doorway for elec i was asked position of gas meter its in a box with a lid which is about 3 inches above ground level meter inside is just under flush, cannot be done operator said have to wait till next year till new generation box arrives

That is because Smart meters have a mobile phone circuit in them. This is how they transmit their own readings to the energy supplier.
Some meter positions do not get a phone signal strong enough to use. That will why you have to wait ,they are improving the circuits to get stronger signals.

Smart meters have to be within 5 feet of the main meter. Hopeless in our case. My husband took it down to the garage and placed it next to the main meter - it still didn’t work!!!
