Broken PS2

Can you help? My daughters PS2 will not play any games, it just shows the PS sign then goes into the page where it shows whats on the memory card. We used a disk cleaner but still no joy?

have you tried playing with no memory card? It could be the card that is broken. Also try putting in a dvd to see if it works

does it attempt to read the discs ?

my sons ps2 was also broken - or so i thought ! then i remembered an old trick with the ps1 where you turned it upside down and it worked...tried this with the ps2 and got the same winning result !!!! it now plays games perfectly with the only downside being that you have to turn it upside down .i think the problem has something to do with the distance between the laser and the disc.

Yeah, we tried putting in a dvd and taking out the memory card but no good. I did remember years and years ago that a similar thing happened to my brothers PS1 where he got it working turning it upside down. I'll try that later. It broke when we bought a second hand GTA game that was full of scratches, not sure if that had anything to do with it? Thanks for the suggestions though!
