Hi all

I'd like to play sound from my TV into my stereo. What wire would I need for this? My stereo is about 5 years old 3-disc player Sony thing and TV is 2 yr old 28inch widescreen by Ferguson? As you can see I am not exactly up on this techinal malarky so layman's terms would be great.

hi,,

im not sure if this is right but i think this is how you do it. on your tv somwhere there should be 2 plug kinda things, normally 1 red and 1 white, there should also be 2 f these on your stereo, then what you need to do is buy a laead which has 2 jacks on it which go into the plugs, its a wire which sort of splits out into 2 at either end. so now you have a wire going from your tv to your stereo, then all you need to do is choose the AUX option on your stereo or the line in or whatever option it is and it should work. be warned though i have never actually done this lol, i tried once but my tv was only basic and didnt have then plugs, but i think this is how you do it! im sorry if this doesnt help you at all!good luck though!

Hi natalie, saxo got it about right but see here for a picture of a RCA plug which is what should be on the ends of the cables. the following names used may vary from model to model but the meaning will be as stated.

The TV should have a output socket marked ''video'' and it may have one marked ''audio'' if it is mono or two marked ''audio left'' and ''audio right'' if it is stereo

The Stereo must have a socket (mono) or two (stereo) for this type plug marked ''auxilliary'' or ''audio'' and probably also labelled input

Simply connect the audio output from the TV to the audio input on the stereo.

Possible problem; The TV has a single audio output but the stereo has two audio inputs.

Solution 1. = just connect only one channel input, this will work ok but only one speaker will work.

Solution 2. = buy a one to two splitter cable and connect the same TV output to both stereo inputs.

It'll be Audio Out left and right, from the description it would be easy to confuse with a 3 phono audio/video input, common on most new televisions (often on the front panel).

Even Adsa / Tesco should have one of these cables.
