Recently when I am looking for info on Google instead of the usual suggestions I get several advert type listings first, before the useful answers appear, is there any way to filter these out??

You can turn off 'personalization', which affects ads supplied by Google across millions of websites

but you can't get rid of the ads which appear at the top of Google search results. Those advertisers pay Google megabucks to make sure that those ads appear there and Google isn't going to risk revenue by offering any way to block them.

There are, of course, lots of other search engines that you can use instead though. DuckDuckGo has fewer ads and doesn't use web-tracking:

Aye, but do any of the others have the "shopping" option ?

Google isn't as good as it was anyway. Time was when you could use non-default sort to put the cheapest options first. Do that now-a-days and you have to plough through pages and pages of totally irrelevant items first :-(
