Do you have a wireless network?

If yes ... NTL have provided me with software that lets me see all available wireless networks in my area - with names .... but also lets me see that they are encrypted / mine is to stop anyone else getting into it. There should be instructions somewhere on how protect your network from outsiders.

If no ... they can't. (Or at least not wirelessly)

If you google for netstumbler then I think that this free software does what you ask.
Some routers will show the mac address of the wireless network cards currently attached to it.
