I keep getting phone calls from BT, saying my internet connection is going to be disconnected.
Has anyone else had them ? and are they a scam ?

Yes, they are a scam.
I get these so called BT calls at least a couple of times each week. When they rang last Friday I was snowed in, bored, unable to get out of my house, so I thought I would humour the caller. He asked, did I live on my own, how old was I, did I have a bank account. He then went on to ask details of my bank card, at which point I gave him an earful and put the phone down. To me, all they're interested in is clearing out your bank account.
The sad thing is, these con artists must find it profitable making all these calls or they wouldn't be doing it. If only one in a hundred, or even one in two or three hundred people, are taken in from one of these calls, then these crooks must consider they're having a good day. Shame on them.

I have the call blocking phone, but one day I got fed up of their repeated calls (blocked by the phone), that having looked up the number and found it was a scam regarding BT Sport, that I answered one once -
"I'm phoning about your BT Sport..."
to which they got told quite firmly that I knew they were not BT and not to call me again
"We are BT..."
to wit
"I know you are not BT because I've checked you number"
They haven't phoned me since - I suposed they didn't expect to be caught out!

Yes,they are a scam! If you do mistakenly pick up the phone then gently place it on the shelf and go and make a cup of tea!
Then just play some classical music and smile-they'll be hopping on the other end-free entertainment!
Don't ever reply to a 'missed call', because, once you dial that number, you've just connected your phone to the outside world!

A family member who is very savvy had this one and she knew it was a scam but it was a recorded message....shame really as she will explicitly tell them to go forth and multiply times ten lol. But just to add, no one is excluded from unwanted calls it seems.
Another family member working in civilian position at a large police station was most surprised to pick up a call from a double glazing firm offering to do some windows free. Asked how many windows they had....I think they were told 100 odd....lol...don't think the window people were interested after that ha, ha.

Mr U worked from BT, based at home. One afternoon when he was at a meeting the study phone rang, a bit strange as he switches it over to the main office when out. When I answered it I received a load of sales pitch from a telecom company. Had some fun trying to get them to explain why they were trying to sell their wares to BT.
