Some of my old VHS videos have developend mildew which damages the VCR tape heads. I can get the VCR working by running a head-cleaner through, but how can I clean the mildew-affected tapes?

To be honets i think you may have to give up the ghost on them...I had a couple like that and they damaged the heads of the VCR...had to have the heads professionally cleaned...the repair shop said the video cassette itself was 'infected' with mildew or something like that and it is almost impossible to clean them...he said I could try some very gentle cleaning cloths but the amount of tape in a standard 3 or 4 hour tape would make it too long to do...just hope anything you had on there can be recorded again...if it's your wedding tape...think it's a gonner...sorry

i assume that its only on the plastic casing and the edges of the tape - as its so tightly wound I can't see it being in between the tape...so you could try compressed air - its used for cleaning components. it may blow the spores etc away

you can buy it in cans
