Do Some Young People Choose To Act Stupid, Or Are They Really That Stupid?

I've been watching a few reality tv shows that I don't normally watch (Dinner Date, Come Dine With Me, Botched) and cannot believe some of things that some of the younger people have said:

I was dating a girl from Wales but dumped her after Brexit as I knew she'd have to leave the country. "But Wales is in the UK!" Well, I know that now!

Who's Winston Churchill? You mean that nodding dog in the advert?

What do you mean, South Pole? There's no such thing - there can't be, cos I've never heard of it.

Trying to follow a recipe. What's tbsp? What's tsp?

I can't help but think this is an act because they think it is somehow cute or attractive. I work with young people and have never encountered this level of ignorance.

Reality TV people are a special kind of stupid. anyone who thinks it's cool ot have that level of intrusion and scrutiny in their lives doesn't have much up top ( however much money it gets them). That's why you have an horrific suicide rate, lots of nervous breakdowns and addictions amongst young people appearing on drossy shows like that. Most young people are fine.

Four In A Bed and Dinner Date isn't in the same league as Big Brother and Love Island, though, as far as I know none of the contestants have found fame or infamy through appearing on the show for less than an hour.
Just one big hole in their education, and just one big hope they will become famous, their last hope is reality television, but in most cases their final downfall.
I don't believe the one about not knowing tbsp/tsp is stupid. It's something you have to learn, hard to figure out.
Unfortunately, they are that stupid. Even worse, this some how gives them more publicity = money = attention. It's dire.

there are some perfect examples of how you can be thick and rich
..and also thick and poor ;-)
I was up late one night not wanting to sleep so on looking for something to watch on telly, well I saw what I think was called naked attraction? I was cob smacked, could not believe what it was. Now don't get me wrong if I see an attractive women out and about, yes I glance, only natural, but hey, what going on here 4/5 girls displaying their naked body on telly, for a guy to pick one of them. There's something really not right.
Naked attraction is an odd one.

I've never seen Naked Attraction, don't think I want to.

Bearing in mind the man who didn't know what a tsp and tbsp was had entered a cookery competition where he had to cook a three course meal for five people, I would have expected him to know very basic terms used commonly in recipes.
Not entirely their fault as many people acquire knowledge with age but often you wonder what they are interested in if they cant answer what we would consider basic or easy.
// Who's Winston Churchill? You mean that nodding dog in the advert?//

I was outside the Ch - ch pub in Manch ( canal st, one of the few 1780 bldgs) when someone said
oh ee duzza wunderful impression of churchy!

I expected - we fight them on the beaches ... we fight them in....
( and didnt have a camera as this limp impression of a dog came out)

in 1940 - people used to mimic him in the shelters
and re do his speeches
not to ridicule
but as a mark of respect
( roll out red barrell ..... etc )

and as s/o else of that generation added:
well there wasnt much else to do besides sit there and be bimbed
I think its an act following the success of Joey Essex... who really is a loveable dingbat.
> I was cob smacked - was that was by a male swan or a bread roll?
How young are we talking? I know 5 year olds who know Wales is in the UK.
I love Joey Essex. I've never watched TOWIE or such like but I do watch him on panel shows. He's hilarious but comes across as a nice bloke.
Same here Ummm I've never watch any of them shows either but also seen him on panel shows etc... you just don't know whether to laugh or cry at times.

Mamya, the people I mentioned were in their 20s
Yes Arky, he's as thick as two short planks, but what makes him funny is he knows it. It's made him a lot of money.
