Surely it's always the more RAM the better ? (As long as you don't go over the maximum.)
More the better :)

More RAM then, rather than RAM + Intel® Optane™ ?
you can have both, optane acts like a hard drive or ssd if you like,
in a pc for game playing or design software etc 16gb of ram is plenty
and a good graphics card with 6gb of inbuilt ram, and an i7 intel cpu
though an i5 would be be ok, optane is basically like a ssd drive.
Optane memory isn't the same as normal RAM, they work in conjunction with each other -

https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/intel-optane-memory-faq

That article also gives the system requirements for its installation & says that Intel recommends 16GB Optane is best (enough) for mainstream use, with 32GB preferable for gaming/professional needs.

I won't use the PC for gaming (a desktop rather than laptop, Lie-in King, tho' guess the principle's the same ), but have seen 2 for the same price & pretty much the same spec other than one has 8GB RAM & the other 4GB RAM + 16GB Optane. So latter would be better ("for mainstream use") ?
I'd be amazed if you could actually notice any difference at all if you'll simply be web browsing, word processing, etc.
Question Author
Ah, ok thanks. Think I'll go with the latter & if I *do* notice any difference (have 8GB RAM now), won't cost much to add another 4GB RAM (or maybe even 8GB, whoop whoop ! LOL).
Thanks all :)
