Why Video Chat Goes Blank When On A Call

using huawei p20 phone
when on a whatsapp / fb video chat my screen timesout after like 3 seconds,
cant seem to fix it even though ive played with the display settings etc

It's probably because your connection to the internet can't handle the required amount of data. Have you tried using Whatsapp when your phone is connected to the internet over your router's wifi (and with your phone in close proximity to the router)? If Whatsapp functions normally then, but not when connected via your mobile phone signal, you'll know that it's a network problem. (You need a good strength 4G connection for video calling).
