Anyone got a GoPro? Very disheartened trying to play back my first collection via microSD card to Win10 laptop and getting constant error messages. Using Windows Media Player at the moment but getting 'can't play', can't support with a code 0x887c0032 if that means anything to anyone? Each clip will start with a still or maybe 1/2 second of play before the same error comes up. I've never had a problem playing/importing off various cameras and cards before.
My other problem is I probably won't understand anyone's answer, I've been googling till my eyes goggle with options, including downloading various gopro dedicated software, fiddling with tools and options and getting nowhere.
I already have a large number of stored files of photos and videos I've taken over the years so not a complete novice at this but.....

Firstly, try a decent media player (which definitely excludes Windows Media player!)

The media player that's constantly recommended in the technical press, as well as on BBC technology programmes and here on AB, is VLC:

If you still get the same error, the next thing to do is to run the Windows 10 System File Checker:

Maybe to the experts but Windows MP has always worked before on anything I've needed,
OK I have downloaded VLC, some will now play maybe 3 seconds before stopping but more alarming is the bottom third of the screen is only green and purple. I do appreciate your help but really think this will need someone sitting beside me, I don't think I am going to rectify this from lots of links.
Before anyone asks me the obvious, yes they play perfectly well on the gopro screen itself.
Error code 0x887c0032 (together with the fact that VLC can't run properly) strongly suggests that there's a missing or corrupt file in the Windows registry. That's why you need to follow the instructions in my second link above.

I have done all that now, took ages. Said it had repaired some corrupt files but makes no difference. If I open with VLC the bottom third is purple and green and just a still of the first frame. If I use media player it mentions the file extensions .THM or .LRV and says can't play them. I give up.

And that same error code should mention
LRV files are low-resolution video files used by GoPros as video previews. THM files are JPG thumbnails used by GoPros as photo previews. Both are used by the GoPro mobile apps. You can safely delete both filetypes–they’ll be regenerated from the original MP4 or image file if needed. Personally I prefer divx its free.

Just as an update in case anyone else comes across this situation, I have asked a colleague who has a GoPro who said I have to download GoPro's own software (Quik or Studio) onto my laptop first as it 'installs the required codecs(sp)'. I'm going to try it later.
