what code do you insert in HTML to tell a browser to look for Flash (at Macromedia I guess) if the person's browser doesn't have it? I have put swf in my page. It works fine when flash is present.

Don't rely on flash. Its accessibility issues are notorious. You should be able to use your site without any flash.

If you do want to use flash, use a javascript checker to see if flash is available.
