What software is available (preferably shareware to start with) which will help with partitioning a 120Gb hard disk (OS - XP Professional)?eg Powerquest Partition Magic 7 will only partition disks up to 80 Gb.

How about partition magic ...it is not shareware but is sometimes bundled with other disk utilities making it a bargain. Very easy to use....all point and clik stuff.

Have you tried going to the website of your hard drive manufacturer? I had problems with my Western Digital HD, sent a query via their website and the bloke at the other end couldn't have been more helpful. They had the partition software for free on their site.
