Where Do I Find Items That Have Been Archived On My Android Moto Smart Phone?

When I go to my g-mail in box and look at the content. My usual practise is to get rid of unwanted mail I touch the item and "swipe" it to the right of the screen. Usually I receive a message that the mail has been deleted. However sometimes the message changes and it reads that this item has been "Archived". The problem for me is that such items I wanted deleted not archived. I thought I could delete unwanted emails by finding the file that holds such items but can't find any sign of archived material.

Tap on the hamburger at top right, select "All mail".
Archiving just prevents them showing in the in box to uncluttered it.
