I've had many vacuums and used many more in my job pre retirement a few years ago..

So, my carpet is a thickest one making it very hard for me to push any of the vacuums I tried so far...hoover cordless, fax cordless, a cylinder vacuum..you get the gist I've had a few..

I've been paying a cleaning lady to do the carpets for me but ....she does little else for her money..I'm retired and arthritic..I'm wondering if anyone has a shark..is it light weight that I might do it myself? I so all the standing up jobs myself..dusting s bit of occasional polish..its this flipping carpet that's getting me down .

Recommendations on a light weight cleaner that will get into a deep pile carpet..please..

I have a shark dual brush roll .its a great machine and has a really long cable only fault it doesn't stand up but I just lean it on a chair or bed etc. it has a slide button on top part to change from carpet to floor very easy to empty .
have you thought about the roomba type of vaccuum? no pushing at all.
I know it sounds drastic, but is the carpet very old? If so, could it be time to change it for a lighter one which will make life easier for you in years to come?
Adding up the cost of the cleaner, the new vacuum and the head ache, just a thought!

Thanks for speedy replies

The carpet it just 18 months old..it was a toss up should we have carpet or wood when we bought it..my husband shuffles a bit with little feeling in his feet..so I was outnumbered by family to choose carpet in case he fell or tripped on a rug...I've not thought or know exactly what a roomba is I'll take a look now thank you all
I also have very thick deep pile carpet in one bedroom. I don't think a lighter vacuum will make any difference - you need to reduce the suction by opening the slider vent - which I thought all vacuums had?
I have a heavy Miele cylinder which won't move on this particular carpet but I open the vent and then it's fine.
A roomba won't be up to the job. My vacuum has a 'brush on' or 'brush off' setting. One works very well on my thick carpet, the other makes it almost impossible to push, maybe yours has a similar setting
Yes having checked that Roomba is the robot ones the blurb says the one thing they can't do is thick carpets.

Thank you for all the advice. I've decided the carpet has to go..a decent grade Lamintate will be installed asap.

Thanks again..
