Just bought the Panasonic DMR BWT850 to record programmes and watch my DVDs. I am a bit worried though ... I can record programmes but can't seem to be able to load and watch my DVDs. They are just normal DVDs and I can't now understand why this model says it is a Blu Ray disc player. Can I watch normal DVDs on it and if so how? Nothing about loading and watching DVDs is mentioned in the instruction booklet neither can I find the eject button. Sorry to sound a bit thick here .....

Check the manual. Does it say it can read normal DVDs as well as Bluray ?
They are usually backward compatible.
The tray for DVD/Bluray discs is hidden behind the front panel.
See Panasonic's web page:

Look at the overview and play the video.
All Blu-ray players can play regular DVDs.

The location of the button to open and close the disc drawer is shown as '2' in the diagram at the top left of this page:

Press the button labelled '3', on this page, to select 'Disc' as the signal source:

We have an older version of this machine; with ours if you insert a disc it automatically switches to DVD/Bluray mode and starts to play.
