Deleting From Windows Live Mail

I haven't used Windows Live Mail for years. I opened it by mistake today, and found several hundred outdated messages. They are all now in my Trash box, but I can only delete them from there one at a time. I'm sure I once knew a way to get rid of them in bulk, but I can't remember how. Please could someone remind me? Currently running Windows 7.
