I noticed from my bill that BT stopped charging for line rental, which was around �23 a quarter.

However, you had to sign up for one of their basic 'Options' packages - cost? around �23 a quarter.

It's like my electricity company announced a few years ago that they were abolishing the standing charge of around �15 a quarter, or "NO MORE STANDING CHARGE !!!" as they put it.

At the same time, they changed the way you were charged for electricity, paying a higher unit charge for the first X units.

And the cost of this increased charge for the first X units? Around �15 a quarter.

The basic call package (BT Together - Option 1) is �10.50 per month if you pay by direct debit or �11.50 per month for other payment methods.
