There's still almost a month of campaigning left, so who knows what will happen in that time? At this stage in 2017 it looked pretty certain that the Tories were on course for a 100+ majority and we all know how that went.
The Opinion piece is from July when Boris was electioneering to become the next Tory leader.
He promised only Boris could deliver Brexit.
Then he didn’t, just like the rest of them.
Since then he had a disastrous start to him Premiership, being humiliated by his own MPs.
And the first week of the General Election campaign has bee poor from the Tories and admittedly no better from Labour).
In short, a lot has changed in the 5 months since this Guardian article was written, and does not apply now.

Well, polling still can tell you something, eh?
I'm not sure we should expect a 2017 result but still there's a lot that can happen in the next month -- and anyway even if the Tories do gain a lot of votes it might end up being more about increased majorities in the seats they already had than in the seats they need to win.

Yes. Not to place my faith in polls.
I wouldn't hazard a guess at the outcome of this election but I think Labour is set to lose a lot of support. This is the first time ever I've known life-long Labour voters planning to put their cross elsewhere.

I think the only party about to get wiped out is The Independent party for change. And that odious woman Soudry will be consigned to the talk show circuit.
Both Labour and Conservatives have too many core voters to be blown for too long. Either party or other will lose lots of seats but rally back at the next couple of elections.
Lib beams only have more MPs at the moment because they got stolen from other parties. How they will do this time is anyone’s guess.
I saw a headline this morning that said The Brexit Party wouldn’t get a single seat. And that may be true but they will get a hell of a lot more votes than others but we’ve seen them get 4 or 5 million votes and no MPs before.
