Running A Portable Harddrive

I have a Lenovo notebook which I use to run my Serato DJ software.

I have acquired a terabyte portable hard drive with about 120,000 MP3's on it.

It seems to be troubling the software to access the portable easily - would it help if I edited down the portable hard drive content, or is it an issue with the software itself?

Any advice appreciated, as always.

do you have another spare drive, i would remove all content from your new external drive, then format that drive.

I see no point in temporarily clearing the drive and then formatting it. Defragging it might improve access times to some files but error-checking it and repairing bad sectors could improve things.
