It might just be a poor internet connection though. Does it only occur when you're using a mobile phone signal or also when you're using your home wifi? (If you're a Virgin Media user, be advised that their services are currently experiencing a lot of problems).

It’s at home on my WiFi Chris. With BT.

No better with mobile data on ....
It could be a dodgy SD card in your phone. However, before you start mucking about it with it, try simply rebooting your phone - it's amazing how often it fixes problems!

I have seen this website, clock is set ok, but I don’t know what an SD card is ..... thanks Chris.
An SD card is what you hopefully put in it, to store images (etc) on, when you first bought it. If you've not got an SD card (which, in practice, is more likely to be a mini-SD or micro-SD card) in your phone, you'll only have a very small amount of internal memory to work with, meaning that you won't be able to store many pictures in it (which couldf explain why you're having problems downloading them).

I still suggst trying to reboot your phone though.
Isn't that what us mere mortals call a SIM card when it's in a phone :-)
Once in a while I do a factory reset on my mobile. Prior to this I backup and save everything.
But when I re-install Whattsap, all of my saved photos dont appear immediately, just some of them. The rest seem to follow over the next few days.

NO!

A SIM card is used to connect to a service provider's phone signal and looks like this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_card#/media/File:SIM-Karte_von_Telef%C3%B3nica_O2_Europe_-_Standard_und_Micro.jpg

An SD card is a memory storage device (like the ones you use in digital cameras), which is used to store images, videos and other files on:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_card#/media/File:SD_Cards.svg

Mobile phones usually have very little 'built in' memory, so it's important to put an SD card into a new phone when you buy one.
So I questioned that because I've never bought an SD card for any phone and I've got hundreds of photos stored in my gallery (not in the cloud) on my current phone. In fact just checked 814 photos and 52 videos.

Thanks ... how do I reboot?? I have switched phone off and on again ...
Don’t want to lose anything!!
Switching the phone on and off again is a 'soft reset' anyway.
Question Author
Would it be anything to do with the new update? I did mention in another question recently, the other problem I have had since updating to version 10 ....
I'd be tempted to uninstall WhatsApp, and then to reinstall it again, but only AFTER backing up all my WhatsApp data (including photos) to another device (such as a PC or laptop). Then there'd be no risk to giving it a go.
