I have lost the 'ink left' indicator on my Epson Sylus 810 printer (although it still prints OK). It is still there but is greyed out and showing empty although there are new (Epson) cartridges in both colour and B&W. Although I am using Epson brand cartridges now, a while back I used compatible ones from other manufactures which worked great and were half the price. It was then that the problem developed and is still the problem now I am back on Epson products. Is this the reason I have lost the indicator? I seem to remember getting an error message at the time that I had put in an incorrect cartridge. Do they put some sort of block on, if so, is it legal for them to do it?

Try uninstalling the Epson software and then reinstall it.

I use compatibles on an R200 without any problems.

Thanks wideboy. That sounds a good solution. I will try it tomorrow.

Thanks again wideboy. That worked a treat. I had to go on the Epson website to find it though and their frequently asked questions told me how to re-install that part of the program (ink level indicator) which had disappeared for some reason. All is fine now thanks to you.
