I need advice from ABers. I am considering buying a new laptop
and have a hankering for the same make as i have now. The Dell
Inspiron. I only need the laptop for the usual stuff, online shopping, online banking etc. I don't need it for any business purpose.
it has to be a 15inch screen, and have windows 10.

Yes I’d strongly advise never going back to windows 7. Which was great while it lasted. Then Windows went a bit weird with its phone version which was used also for desktops.
So windows looks a bit different now but worth sticking with. Windows 8 was the nightmare

does the USB stick have to be a certain amount of storage, i am quite out of the loop on tech stuff.
Question Author
what USB would i buy, there are loads to choose from.
various prices...
no, but the bigger it is the more you'll be able to do at a time
You shouldn’t have to pay to upgrade to windows 10.
I once had a laptop come back from the laptop hospital with Windows 8 reinstalled over my Windows 10 free upgrade and after the deadline for free upgrades had expired.
After I’d calmed down and stopped throwing crockery around I got on to Microsoft help and they talked me through a free upgrade. In fact she claimed that in effect anyone could upgrade for free if they asked

i need a USB stick if i want to transfer documents, photo's etc, basically how much storage should i look for.
OK ichkeria thanks I will check that out.
Question Author
so what Ram would i need for a new USB stick or whatever you call it. that would take hundreds of pics and many documents...
Have you any idea how much storage you’ll need emmie?

Probably a fair bit. I’d go for the biggest you can find.
If you run out of space on it you can always get another.
Sorry I misread your question.
Don’t worry about RAM as far as a usb stick is concerned
Question Author
so what is the difference between one that costs 10 quid and another 30 quid.. apart from the difference in price,
is it more storage space..
Question Author
sorry about the long copy and paste.
A selection for you, similar but cheaper on Amazon. Most of them are usb3 as well.

Personal preference for me are Sandisk. I've got a couple still working fine after a few years.
32gb is a fair size - I’ve no idea if it’s a good price. Others could advise you better.
For safety sake I’d recommend copying everything to the stick - or sticks if you need more then one - before you start copying stuff over.
And you can always use those sticks as a backup for the future
Question Author
sandisk ok, should you buy more than one....
if you want to get all of your documents onto a stick (s) in one go then it will really depend on how much space your documents take up as to what size you need. you idea of lots of documents is probably different to mine. Have you thousands of pictures and videos? letter probably won't take up much space at all.
If however price is more important to you, get a cheap one and put part of your documents on it at a time, then when they are transferred, delete them and fill it up with new ones
Question Author
hundreds of pics, not many videos, and some documents that i would need copied over. so a sandisk 32gb would do...
Question Author
price isn't a problem...
Question Author
i have bought a sandisk 32gb, hopefully that will suffice for now. All i have to do now is buy the laptop, lol
