File/Windows Explorer
4 Answers
Problem with my woman's PC. Running Windows 10. (I think there may be further issues she's not detailed but that aside); what I've experienced is right clicking on a file or directory (aka folder) in File Explorer resulting in a permanent spinning circle for the cursor, and no ability to do more with it, save to open the Task Manager and end it.
(Try the same thing on the laptop and the circle is momentarily there, followed by the expected menu.)
Any thoughts on how this can be fixed ? Can one reinstall File Explorer ?

Just tried. Thanks, but nice attempt, but no dice. (Some of the pages need updating, I guess they aren't keeping up with the system updates.) One particularly irritating aspect was the need to bring up an administrator level DOS window; but that uses File Explorer apparently (?!) to upgrade from the basic level, but it's File Explorer with issues and the option request isn't acted upon. Ho hum...
Last night, what seems to be the same issue, was stopping the PC from booting up. Similar to the explorer issue, Windows started to come in, but then stuck there with a circle cursor rotating forever. Tried to reboot a few times but eventually left it and went to bed. In the morning it was trying to get me to put in a phone number or e-mail address to log into a Microsoft account !!! What the heck was that about ? Had to press a cancel key to get out, whereupon, although it took a while, it eventually came in. But the explorer still freezes with a rotating cursor if one right clicks on a file.
