Sony Xperia 10 - Problems With Yahoo Mail

Have been having a problem with deleting emails on my Sony Xperia 10 mobile phone. In short, it just won't delete emails, even when I tick them individually and click the "bin" icon at the bottom. I've got absolutely loads of unwanted emails now in my "trash" and just can't get rid of them. don't seem to have the same problem with the spam folder, that seems to delete whenever I tap the "bin" icon. It's just the "trash" where it won't delete anything. Had thought of uninstalling the Yahoo Mail app and then re-installing it, but would be grateful for some advice, please.
