There are plenty of (free) options on line - try one!

As Jim says, the standard way to go about the task is to use OCR software. FreeOCR is one program that I've used and I'm happy to recommend:

However there are online alternatives available too, either using Google Docs or a dedicated website. See here:

You should note that OCR applications extract the text from images, rather than actually convert the image files, so you'll end up with just a basic text file (which you can then paste into a new Word document), rather than a document which looks like the original itself. You should also note that such software is rarely perfect; you might need to tweak some of the extracted text a little to get it back to how it should be.

There's a hell of a lot of work for your computer to do if it's a 60-page document, Andy. You might just need to give it time
However if you can't get that program to work with your file, SimpleOCR is a good alternative:

If you really get stuck, you might need to split the single PDF file into 60 separate ones (with one file for each page) and then use either FreeOCR or SimpleOCR to convert each one in turn. (Yes, it will be incredibly tedious but at least it should work!). If you're using Windows 10, this app can do the splitting task:

(You might care to try this to do the conversion first though: https:/ /www.mi crosoft .com/en -gb/p/p df-conv erter-c onvert- pdf-to- word-pd f-to-ep ub-mobi -docx-t xt-for- free/9n cjqqzc0 21h ).
If you're using an earlier version of Windows, google 'PDF splitter' to find a suitable program.
