I seem to remember someone querying the time and date recorded of their last activity in the Answerbank. They hadn’t posted anything or looked at AB but their profile showed them as having been around. As I recall, they were told that if they remained logged in to AB, other activity on the internet would register as activity in AB. I hope that makes sense. Can anyone remember that conversation - or did I misunderstand it?

Seems a perfectly reasonable question to ask. Sorry Naomi I can't help you on this.
I can see how that would work. I have Answerbank open on its own tab with automatic log in. I suppose that every time I refresh the browser I get signed in to AB whether I open the tab or not and that would register as activity
I don't think it's other activity on the Internet. But for example if you're logged in on your mobile phone, and open your mobile browser, that may trigger a "hit" on AB somehow (especially if AB was the last thing you were looking at when you closed the browser before). Likewise with tabs on a laptop or iPad.
My understanding is if you are signed in that is your last activity even if you haven't posted or looked at a thread, you can't look at your profile without it showing that you are currently logged in anyway so don't know how anyone can say when they previously were active (unless another poster looks it up for them).

Unless you have more than one user account, Prudie. I've heard whispers that some people do - and some argue with themselves on AB :D

I found this answer from BIBBLEBUB in 2014

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question1380742.html

"The last activity date/time is not the same as the last time that someone logged into the site - if you log out of the site but leave the cookie then a visit to the site without logging-on still updates the activity date/time in the cookie."
how did an innocuous question generate three removed answers?
I'll give you 3 guesses ael ;)
"you can't look at your profile without it showing that you are currently logged in anyway so don't know how anyone can say when they previously were active (unless another poster looks it up for them). "

Yes you can: just use a different browser where you are not signed in.
OK but that's sort of covered by my "unless another poster looks it up for them". If I wanted to do it I'd have to download a browser I've not used before or look with my other name if I had one :-)

Thanks all. I’m not sure it was the thread that Corby posted that had me wondering about this - I think there was another - but at least I wasn’t imagining it! Thanks again for your answers.
“ If I wanted to do it I'd have to download a browser I've not used before or look with my other name if I had one”

That’s pretty easy but you don’t even need to do that.
“Other browser” can be as simple as “other device”. Log out on your phone, say, and stay logged in on your laptop.
I cant help either - american election too rivetting
// and some argue with themselves on AB :D//!
