I've been using Word all day to write an essay and I've come back after a break to find the spelling and grammar files have gone. It still automatically changes some words if they're spelt wrong but it isn't picking up any other mistakes. I've tried restarting but no luck. Can someone help?

Copy all the text into a new Word Document, or if that doesn't work, into Notepad and back again?
you change alter all the different spelling and grammar settings for word, so maybe if u check in there you can alter it. ive turned mine off for my word as it does my head in with all those green and red squiggly lines!

Do you mean that your 'Custom Dictionary' has been wiped, or that errors are not showing up as underlined red because you have previously checked and accepted / ignored errors?

If the latter, go to Tools > Options > select the 'Spelling & Grammar' tab, and somewhere here (depending on which version of Word you are running) you will see a button saying 'Recheck Document' or something similar.

If you click this, any errors in the text will re-appear with red underline, as if you hadn't previously checked it.
