History is under the three dots on the right but I don't recall ever seeing file, edit etc in any browser, only in file explorer or actual programmes like Word and Excel.

thanks, its on a number of mine, in the setting etc
Surely that's for the bookmark bar though ie your favourite web pages, not file, edit etc. What files/edit would you have in Chrome IE or Edge for example?
Question Author
thanks - but its not the bookmarks bar im looking for - its the standard one that shows on a lot of software

it usually reads =

"File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help"

and its usually got a setting to enable it somewhere, but i cant find one

i use it all the time prudie, on a few of them

look at firefox settings and enable all the toolbars and you will see it
Chrome doesn't have that bar (functions are in the 3 dots menu) but you can add an extension to get one. The link here looks to be what you're after - https://tinyurl.com/y54pyacv

yay, thank you Lie-In-King, thats done it!

i hadnt thought to call it a menubar! - i just searched toolbars!

Problem solved - kind of odd they dont just build it in, its such a common tool, especially for older people who dont like all the symbols and buttons and just want words

Arrrghhh!! I spoke too soon! This is exactly the right thing - but it doesnt work!

it keeps disappearing on every new tab!

its showing in the add ons as being on and working - but it doesnt show up anywhere except the installation window
Glad you're sorted, joko :-)
Try holding down the ALT button then pressing F to make the menu appear.

(ALT-F for short).

joko - sorry, we posted at the same time & I didn't notice your post @ 18:09.

I've just installed it on Chrome, restarted the browser & it shows on all my open tabs. It *doesn't* show if you click the + to open a new (empty) tab, but it's there when you fill that tab with a site.
...Also, if you want the extension icon (white + in a black box) to show permanently, click the jigsaw piece top-right & "Pin" the extension.
