mpeg video skips or jumps

i have short mpeg videos of songs on my computer running windows ME that play perfectly in realplayer or media player. when i copy them to transfer them the copy always plays with faults like a record or cd track skipping or jumping. i have tried burning to cd, dragging to usb memory and copying over network to another computer running xp. always the same fault. hope you can help.
