I use google.co.uk as my home page and only ever want to start my search for pages in UK. It
doesn't make sense to me that I take the trouble to call itself google.co.uk and has a UK logo but then stupidly defaults to search the entire web. I have to always click on search the UK. There doesn't seem to be an option for this in preferences. Really frustrating!

I have seen some ideas in answerbank such as switching to Firefox and making a double link back through your own web pages etc..etc.

I am assuming Intenet Explorer is needed and have the answer to this if at least 5 people want to know. The reason for this absurd limitation on me dishing out "the knowledge" is that it took me almost a year to find out so you have got to work for it.

So come on 5 people !

Count me in for frustration limitation
one extra click ? how frustrating is that really ?!

I only ever search UK if I'm looking to buy things - searching only UK sites for infomation will ignore a lot of valid results.

mattk. It is a question of semantics thats all. A UK search engine means UK search to me and I just got fed up of forgetting to chane it to filter out the stuff priced up in dollars when I was looking at prices.

Anyway tomd yes agreed in toto . You get 5 house points and a gold star ! Where were you when I was trying to find that out ?

I only sparadically check answerbank although I've been registered for years.

I am not very computer literate but give this a go.

Click arrow next to Google logo [far left on toolbar] click options, click search on top, at the bottom you have option of what google site to use, scroll down to United Kingdom[google co.uk] click apply then o.k. Hope that works.

Google is only one of hundreds of available search engines. Most of Google's recent developments (e.g. image searching and web translation) are only following the lead taken by AltaVista which, for my money (and particularly for UK searches), is a far better search engine. Why not give it a try?:
