Just to be sure, can you make other apps make sound? E.g. open up volume control and click on the slider.
If you are using a pc try a different browser

It's a mystery. Sometimes I get a faint, almost inaudible sound, other times nothing. Probably need a new computer.
Do you get sound from other websites?
Question Author
No. It's not a big problem, just annoying as I can't follow audio links. Probably time for a new one, although thus on is less than three years old.

^^'this one'
You don’t need a new PC. Can you hear anything with headphones connected?
Question Author
Never thought of that. I don't have any so I'll buy a pair and see if that makes a difference.
You are talking about your PC I presume.
A few months ago mine (Asus) developed a hum which got worse & worse until it was all there was & I couldn't use sound at all. I tried everything - new audio driver etc. The fault was in the PC which might have be repairable but it was 10 years old & not worth it so I had to get a new PC.
That is easy enough, but the snag is the bother of transferring everything from one to the other, which I did with the help of a techie friend & all is now well.
I hope you can find an easier solution though.
Both your PC AND the YouTube are unmuted ?

Have you checked for earwax ?
Question Author
Yes to both!
You haven't got a pair of the earphone things that come with some mobile phones knocking about?
Have you tried playing YouTube in a different browser?

There are also some YouTube apps in the Windows store - give one of them a go
Question Author
No, unfortunately. I'll just buy some cheap ones, they're bound to come in useful anyway.

Sussed it. I had the volume at minimum on You tube. Thanks all for your time and suggestions.
:D Hurrah! Told you that you didn't need a new PC :D Thanks for the laugh this morning anyway
When all else fails: read the instructions :0)
