Print Job Won’t Clear

I’ve introduced my new laptop to my photosmart printer and all is well until the print job finishes. It won’t clear and blocks the next print job and the only solution is to turn the printer off and on again. It means I can’t print more than one item without a proper game.
Any ideas?

I would suspect a problem with the printer drivers on the new laptop. Did you install the drivers from a CD? Also check that the drivers are the latest available for the laptop's operating system.
Question Author
I must have downloaded the drivers - no CD input on the laptop.

How would I check please, that they are the latest drivers?
To see the current driver details (assuming Windows) go to 'Devices and Printers', right-click on the photosmart printer icon and select 'Printer properties'. In the Properties window click the 'Print Test Page' button. The 'Driver version' is shown on the resulting print and can be compared with the drivers available here:

Thank you! I'll check that.

Access denied to your link Etch.

But I have checked drivers and they seem to be correct.

Any other ideas anyone?

Still no luck. My printing finishes but the job remains in the queue and says - printing. If I delete it, it stays there as says - Deleting. But doesn't delete or disappear so blocking the queue if I send another job. Grrrr

Try downloading and running the Print and Scan Doctor diagnostic tool:

Thanks Etch

I have done that but the Tool can see the printer but isnt abnle to connect with it. I've run a wireless check and all is fine there, besides I can print so the laptop can connect, it just wont clear the queue.

However I have found that if I run the Windows printer troubleshooter, the spool clears and that's a wee bit better than having to reboot between each print job!
Bring up the Printer Properties window and select the Ports tab. Is there an 'Enable bidirectional support' tick box? If there is, and it is not greyed-out, then make sure it is ticked.
Question Author
It is greyed out.
