Hi Techie ABers ... We've just treated ourselves to an Echo Dot, which we love using. For an additional £5 we also purchased a "smart plug", I sort of know what it's for, but don't know exactly how to use it. Can someone explain in simple terms, please. Many thanks, cheers, Chox.
for example, i have an electric recliner. I have linked the plug to the alexa so that when im not using it, i can turn the electricity off to that plug without having to bend down and fiddle with it (the transformer is loud). I also have a smart plug on the alexa in 9yo bedroom which i have set up to go off at a certain time and come back on at a certai time so she cant use the alexa in the night. Also good for xmas tree lights
I have lamps all over the house connected to smart plugs, Alexa and app called IFttt. When my doorbell rings all the lamps turn on so the deaf members of my family know somebody is at the door. I can switch the lamps off by voice or an app.
Thanks everyone, so helpful. Have just opened the c arc board box and seen that it’s a normal 3 pin plug which goes into the smart plug. Thought it might have been a USB type connector … will give it all a try tomorrow … cheers everyone… chox.
I just remembered I planned to plug my kettle into one then turn it on. Then when I wanted a cuppa say Alexa put the kettle on so it was boiling byhtge time I got there however I got one of those one cup things insteaf
