I have never understood the phrase agree to disagree. 3 years ago I was in major conflict with someone and I felt they were totally wrong about something and they did not feel they were but they said did it really matter who was right or wrong could we not agree to disagree. I could not so I walked away from the church and the relationship. I have had an argument with my mother about something she said to my brother, she denies it but I was there and heard it. Could I not agree to disagree.? Does agreeing to disagree mean backing down or in some way accepting I am wrong. Ok I have an issue with pride and stubbornness

no, it just means that you have your position, she has hers and it's an acknowledgement that neither of you will move from those positions, but you will move past it
It means agreeing to move on and stop discussing the issue while still maintaining your positions: neither is conceding/ backing down but you are agreeing to put the matter to rest
basically, it means you believe whatever you want to, and I'll believe whatever "I" want to.
To me, "agreeing to disagree" means accepting that there will always be differences of opinion but that the issue should be put to one side in order for normal relations to be resumed between the two parties.
agree Buenchico
it is what Andie H ( bless!) and Naomi ( bless!) do just about every day of the week after 30 or 40 posts
PP, that’s another lie from you. Leave me out of your stupid ramblings.
And me.
yes, you are both correct - you never agree to disagree, you just both cay on ad infinitum cause you both want the last word (or that's how it seems from the outside anyway)
Naomi; don't be so rude.
^ What ??? How about pp's rudeness in bringing naomi into the mix AGAIN when she hadn't even posted on here ??
I think, if you really care about the person you are disagreeing with, that 'agreeing to disagree' is a good thing, as you can remain friends (or relatives) and move on from it. People will always disagree, it's the nature of the beast !
What is rude about what Naomi said Atheist?
Now look what you've done Gordie!
Ladybirder, she called PP stupid and a liar. Do you regard that as not rude?
Keep stirring Atheist!
Atheist, PP has been doing this to me for years from thread to thread and very often several times a day. The editor is aware of it. Now if observation isn’t your forte I’d be very much obliged if you’d mind your own business.

Thank you ladies. Much appreciated.
Horses for courses I'd say.

It's the editor's ball and if she thinks it's being played with nicely then that's that.

You may of course disagree. :-P
The saying means that you both agree to have different opinions and part on good terms.
