Just recently my kindle fire's battery drains very very quickly.
It is fairly old, around 7 years. Has anyone got any tips on how to prolong battery life.

old Kindle fires have a problem with the chargers so they don't charge fully, add to that the age of the device and the improvements with the new editions I recommend you grab a black Friday deal and buy an upgrade. Not worth buying a new battery and replacing the charger point
Don't read so much:-)
Mine's the same I just make sure it's switched ofwhen not in use and I charge it every 3/4 days
If you use a fire for reading it's not really good for that. get a separate kindle paperwhite for books and keep the fire for everything else
Thinking about it mine's so old all I can do is read on it
are you talking about a fire (like a tablet) or an e reader?
Good news if it's a tablet, they are even cheaper than the e readers
The cheapest Kindle is £50 (the ereader); the cheapest Fire is £30 (the tablet).
Bonkers, isn't it?

Yes, it is a tablet I've got. I really love it. I don't read book on it as I've got a
Paper white.
I guess I'm looking to buy another one.
Amazon's got some good deals on today, Sharon. 10" Fire without ads for £90 instead of £160; or the new Fire 10 Plus for £160 without ads instead of £230 - that one has 64GB storage
New batteries for Kindles are fairly cheap on eBay. e.g. this one fits the Kindle 4:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353743707626

Instructions for fitting can be found on YouTube, e.g.

(Ignore the ad for a US battery website at the start of that video).
it's a fire chris
Maybe I should read posts better, Bednobs ;-)
(I put it down to old age. That, and troublesome cats, seems to provide with with an excuse for just about everything these days!)

Just put 'Kindle Fire battery' into an eBay search, Sharon, to find what you need. Installation video here:

(Again, ignore the ad for a battery supplier at the start of the video).
If you read the Mail they are currently offering a free 7inch kindle and a £30 Amazon voucher if you subscribe.
The current issue of Computer Act!ve magazine has a feature on "20 Most Likely Black Friday Deals". They're predicting that Amazon will drop the prices for its tablets with, for example, the Amazon Fire 10 HD possibly dropping in price from £149.99 to £99.99 and the price of the Amazon Fire 8 possibly falling as low as £49.99.

So it could be worth keeping an eye on Amazon's website this week.
