Vlc Automatic Screenshot Function Is Overwriting Previous Screenshots
9 Answers
I am taking screen shots of footage from about 50 episodes of a show but every time the next video starts, it begins to replace all the screenshots from the video before it.
its because of the naming of the screenshots, but i cant see a way to stop it doing that
im having to do one ep at a time, then stop & move all the screenshots out of the pictures folder, but i'd rather just let it play through
does anyone know the setting i need to adjust to make this work?
there are 2 save options - one for sequential numbers & one a date & time stamp - ive tried both of those & neither worked, they both still replaced the screenshots.
thanks :)

the prefix option will still just replace the next lot as before.
i need it to see another file with the name its wanting to give but instead of replacing it, i need to add it with an extra number or something, or to auto name those shots with the name of the episode or something

thanks bhg, but it will still be that for them all, so will still overwrite.
i want to play them all back to back & leave it to it you see, but if i have to stop it & change the prefix with every ep & may as well just do it the way i have done the first few.
i cant seem to find anything that even mentions this issue - except once & that gave the answer to change the numbering.

You've got me puzzled now, joko; perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you want to do.
Yesterday I opened a video with VLC and took a snapshop - it was saved as xxx-00001.
Today I opened a completely different video and took a snapshot which was saved as xxx-00002.
Loading another video a snapshot was saved as xxx-00003.
The numbering has not reset and all snapshots are saved.
Am I misunderstanding you?

perhaps its because its automatically taking the snapshot - its not me clicking the snapshot button.
But when it automatically starts to play the next episode it automatically starts to number them from the start again, replacing the ones from the previous episode.
i watched it happening, in front of my eyes, thats how i noticed, & when i double checked i only had images from the most recent episode. I looked for other folders incase it'd automatically separated them & it hadnt.
There is a setting to make it auto take snapshots at whatever interval you choose, it gives 2 options for labelling - date or consecutive numbers, but it happened with either of them.
i googled and there were a few other ppl with same issue, but none had resolved it.
