Started yesterday, annoying pop-ups saying a virus (or 5 viruses - messages differ?) have been found on my laptop. Some of these pop-ups come from Total AV, some from McAfee and others from Norton. All include the Microsoft logo.
I have had the laptop for about 3 years and have always relied on the inbuilt Windows security system. When i click on 'security at a glance' on said system, indications are that all is well - i.e. all showing white tick in green circle - and that 'no action is needed.
As i was typing this, i got a warning that a Trojan was on my laptop and to 'click here' to eradicate it.
How can i rid my laptop of these pop-ups?
PS: If the pop-ups are only present when you use one browser, it might be worth resetting that browser to its 'out of the box' state (either instead of my suggestions above or possibly as well as them). If you need instructions, please say which browser you're using.
Ta for the advice, Chris. My daughter is much more tech savvy than i ever will be so i'll let her have a look at your comments and suggestions the next time she visits*. Whatever she decides, i'll let her do all the clicking:-)
*It's her birthday on Friday so i dare say she will pay me a visit then :-))
Thanks Chris. Problem solved. Due to family get togethers, wind and rain, Daughter has only just sorted it. Removed S Mode and removed annoying phishing ads.
