It was almost exactly 5 years old. Would it be worth while trying to get it repaired or should I accept its gone and look for something else?

How has it 'died'? It might be something very simple that's gone wrong with it.

what is wrong with it exactly , i've had a Galaxy for about 7 years with no trouble

The screen froze. I turned it off and it wouldn't come back on.
A month or so before that I was getting a message on screen that the battery wasn't up to par and I had it replaced.

Try pressing the power button and the 'volume down' button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds.

if you do get it back on go to settings and open Battery and Device care , it does it's own diagnostic scan

More to the point ... How did yo lose access to your proper profile Sandy? We can't have you coming in through the tradesmans entrance. All that lovely history of the trail and your adventures will be lost in time. The Ed can sort out those sort of things you know. We want sandyRoe back.
