Has anyone here had to have a new on/off button installed on their PC, and if so, how much did it cost?

No, but next to nothing would be my guess. Check the Internet for prices.

OG, you're right, the actual parts are inexpensive. I was wondering how much the tech. charges to actually install it and if anyone on this site had had it done. I guess the best thing to do, obviously, is to make some calls.
you mean there's an OFF button? :))
Should be very cheap at a local computer repair shop, assuming your PC is not unusually complicated.
Question Author
Dave, after I had posted I wondered why I'd used the term 'off':)
Question Author
OK, the cost is $70, but that also includes the guy coming to my apartment to pick up the computer and take it to his shop and to return it and plug everything back in once he's installed the new part.
Question Author
$70 is around 43 pounds.
I use sleep ALOT
off is off putting - it is a sortta reboot and always seems to screw up my machine for a few days

the four figure pin sort of goes. and replaced with the microsoft password they stored in california - first time THAT happened made me sweat !

white screen of death and so on
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Question Author
The problem is that when I go to switch it on in the morning I have to press the button multiple times before it finally comes on, so I decided to get it replaced before it gives up altogether.
The button simply plugs in to pins on the motherboard.

Has your computer also got a reset button?

If so, plug the reset button in where the power button goes, then use the rest button as the power button.

Peter, at 2058, I have never thought of using the 'sleep' mode. Maybe I should do that once the new switch is installed.
Maybe do it instead
