Joining Two Sest Of Data

Me again!

I have two Excel spreadsheets and I want to combine them.

I got the first sheet - data entries look like this -

YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME 12 INCH D TRAIN

and the second sheet entries look like this -

A Day Without Love - Love Affair.mp

I have copied the 'A' section of the new sheet and tried to A-Z it into the existing list.

I have tried doing this on the entire sheet, and on just the 'A' section of the existing sheet, and it won't work on either of them.

Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong please? What remains of my hair is in serious danger!!

Unsure what's happening, but can you post it into a second workpage first, then maybe transfer it to the workpage you want for sorting ?

Failing that, sort in a text editor and then put into the spreadsheet ?

All the material ending in 'mp', which is the second sheet data, is in column A, and I am trying to get that into column A on the first sheet.

can you copy it, add it to the bottom of column a (with no spare lines) then go to sort/fliter, put a sort on and click a-z?

That is what I have done, and it won't work, hence my problem.

I wondered if the data was 'overloading' so I just put about fifty entries in - still no sort done.

are you higlighting column a before you do the sort?

Andy can you mock up an example in the form of the columns you have now (with a marker so we know what is in what column) I don't understand how "YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME 12 INCH D TRAIN" actually looks in column format. Then do the same for what you want it to look like. Eh I assume "A Day Without Love - Love Affair.mp " - looks like this

A day without love | Love affair.mp (3???)

I am indeed.

I have done this before, and it worked, but not this time, no idea what is different ...

Gaps no - formulae, i am not sure, and I wonder if this is the problem?

it seems unlikely you would have accidentally put a formula in unless you were doing something else fancy with it before and im not even sure a formula would affect it, just trying to think why it wont do it.
Do you have info in more than 1 column?

andy-hughes - when you insert the data from the second sheet into the first are you using 'Paste Values' or just 'Paste'?

... or are you using 'Insert Copied Cells'?
